Through the years, many important businesses and industries have thrived in Norwich. Perhaps most notable was the Norwich Pharmacal Company, creator of well-known products such as Unguentine and Pepto-Bismol, brands now owned by the Procter & Gamble Company. A P&G spin-off company known as Norwich Pharmaceuticals, Inc. continues drug manufacturing and packaging operations just north of the city, employing approximately 250.
The city of Norwich is also pleased to be home to NBT Bank, which has established itself as an important regional bank, employing some 400 people locally and operating eighty branch locations throughout New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. The city’s manufacturing sector is lead by Norwich Aero, an aerospace components maker, and CWS Packaging, a consumer products packaging firm. Other major employers and important service providers in the city are Chenango Memorial Hospital and the Morrisville College satellite campus.
